Official Rules of Participation
Volleyball Participant Rules and Code of Conduct
Based on the principles of Volleyball Canada Official Rules, Fair Play Standards, Participant Conduct Policies, and Safe Sport Guidelines.
1. Purpose
The purpose of these rules is to promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and enjoyable volleyball environment for all participants, coaches, officials, volunteers, employees, spectators, and guests.
Participation in any Terranova Sports Group volleyball activity constitutes acceptance of these rules.
2. Respect and Sportsmanship
All participants must:
Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.
Respect referees, coaches, teammates, opponents, staff, and spectators.
Accept referee decisions without argument or intimidation.
Communicate in a respectful and professional manner.
Encourage teamwork and positive participation.
Compete fairly and honestly.
Participants may request clarification of a ruling through the Team Captain or Coach only.
3. Player Conduct
Players shall not:
Use abusive, threatening, insulting, discriminatory, or offensive language.
Harass, intimidate, bully, or target another participant.
Engage in physical aggression or violence.
Throw equipment in anger.
Deliberately attempt to injure another participant.
Disrupt games, practices, or team activities.
Consume alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or intoxicating substances during any sanctioned activity.
Violations may result in suspension or immediate removal from the program.
4. Safety Requirements
Player safety is the highest priority.
All participants must:
Report injuries immediately.
Follow all coach and official safety instructions.
Wear appropriate athletic clothing and footwear.
Remove jewelry that could cause injury.
Keep playing areas free of hazards.
Stay properly hydrated during activities.
Seek medical attention when required.
Participants with known medical conditions must inform Terranova Sports Group before participation.
5. Concussion Protocol
Any player suspected of suffering a concussion shall:
Be removed from play immediately.
Not return to activity until medically cleared.
Follow all established concussion management procedures.
Player health always takes precedence over competition.
6. Fair Play Standards
All participants agree to:
Play within the rules of volleyball.
Avoid cheating or intentionally violating rules.
Respect the integrity of competition.
Support teammates regardless of skill level.
Win with humility and lose with dignity.
7. Safe Sport Requirements
Terranova Sports Group maintains a zero tolerance policy regarding:
Harassment
Bullying
Abuse
Discrimination
Hazing
Retaliation
Sexual misconduct
Threatening behaviour
All participants are expected to contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
8. Youth Protection
For participants under 18 years of age:
Parents or guardians must complete all required registration forms.
Appropriate supervision must be maintained at all times.
Coaches and staff shall follow Rule of Two and Open and Observable Environment principles whenever possible.
9. Attendance and Participation
Participants are expected to:
Arrive on time.
Notify coaches when unable to attend.
Participate fully in practices and games.
Demonstrate commitment and readiness.
Repeated unexcused absences may affect team participation or roster status.
10. Equipment Responsibility
Participants shall:
Respect all equipment and facilities.
Report damaged equipment immediately.
Use equipment only for its intended purpose.
Return all borrowed equipment promptly.
Participants may be held financially responsible for deliberate damage.
11. Social Media Expectations
Participants represent Terranova Sports Group both on and off the court.
Participants shall not:
Post offensive or discriminatory content.
Harass others online.
Publish confidential information.
Damage the reputation of teammates, coaches, officials, sponsors, or Terranova Sports Group.
Positive and respectful online conduct is expected at all times.
12. Spectator Expectations
Parents, supporters, and spectators must:
Support all participants respectfully.
Refrain from confronting officials.
Avoid coaching from the sidelines unless authorized.
Maintain a positive and family friendly atmosphere.
Terranova Sports Group & Spikeville Volleyball reserves the right to remove disruptive spectators.
13. Discipline Process: Violations may result in:
Level 1: Verbal Warning
Level 2: Written Warning
Level 3: Suspension from Practice
Level 4: Suspension from Competition
Level 5: Removal from Program
Level 6: Termination of Employment or Volunteer Status
** Serious violations may result in immediate dismissal without prior warnings.
14. Zero Tolerance Offences
The following may result in immediate suspension or expulsion:
Physical assault
Violent behaviour
Harassment
Discrimination
Threats
Drug use during activities
Possession of weapons
Theft
Deliberate property damage
Falsification of records
